Why are GYHA and WSYHA creating the THA?
For as long as both organizations have been in existence, there have been seasons where there were not enough players at a certain level to be able to create a team.  By bringing players from both organizations together, there should be enough players at all levels to create competitive team(s).

Are GYHA and WSYHA merging?
No.  There will still be plenty of hockey at several levels that will need to be the responsibility of each organization.  The THA has emerged as the result of the efforts of these two great organizations.

Where will the teams practice?
From mid-March until early November, possibly mid-October, all tryouts, player development programs and early season practices will be held at the Greensboro IceHouse.  From mid-October until Mid-March, practices, player development programs and games will be shared equally between the W-S Fairgrounds Annex and the Greensboro IceHouse.

Where will the teams play their games?
Games, practices and all situations related to hockey will be shared between the W-S Fairgrounds Annex and the Greensboro IceHouse.

What is Travel Hockey?
As we all know, having been involved in the sport of hockey, that playing games requires a certain amount of travel.  There just isn’t a rink on every corner.  Travel Hockey will still have the same meaning as in the past.  Your player(s) tryout for a certain level of play.  That level of team will be placed in a bracket within the CHL.  The CHL schedules league games of anywhere from 12 to 16 games plus playoffs per season.  The CHL tries very hard to create divisions within levels to eliminate long road trips.  However, there are times when it is necessary to have overnight accommodations due to scheduling.  In addition to the CHL games, teams will apply to play in regional tournaments (number to be determined)  that almost always require overnight accommodations.

Do we need to enroll on both the THA website and the GYHA or WSYHA website?  If you plan on playing with the Triad Hockey Alliance, you will only need to register on this website.

When are the tryouts, where?
The tryouts for all levels of play within the THA will take place in May, please check the website for specific dates.  Tryouts will be held at the Greensboro Ice House.

If my player(s) miss the tryouts, can they still be placed on a team?
First of all, all players must be registered to be eligible to tryout. This gives THA a starting point on the number of players eligible for each level of play.  We understand that not every player will be on the ice during the tryout dates.  THA will accommodate all players to find a proper level of play.

How many tournaments will teams be going to each season?
The number of tournaments to be played by each team is still has not yet been decided, but each team will most likely play 3-4 tournaments.  Although sometimes expensive, depending on location, tournaments offer the opportunity for both players and families to get to know each other and bond as a hockey family.

What will the annual fees be for 2017-2018?
The approximate cost for the 2017-2018 season is posted on the home page of the website, you can expect it to be extremely competitive compared to our neighboring organizations in Raleigh and Charlotte. The cost per player is determined by several factors including: how many practices per week, whether those practices are full or shared ice, number of player development clinics, number of league games, and number of tournaments.

How many teams will there be?
The number of teams per level will be first determined by the number of eligible players at each age group. Then it will be determined whether to create AA, A and B/House Select teams. Registration and tryouts will determine the final number of teams.

How about Learn to Skate, Learn to Play, Mites, and Girls Hockey?
The sole purpose of the THA is to ensure a place for EVERY player to be able to have a team to play on. The levels stated here will be the responsibility of both GYHA and WSYHA to continue to operate their programs as they have in the past. Our goal is to use this opportunity to help create more opportunities to player development, especially at the lower levels.

We just bought our player new gear.  Will we have to buy all new gear again this coming season?
The programs run by GYHA and WSYHA will continue to operate as they have in the past.  The new THA requires red helmet, gloves and pants starting the 2016-2017 season.

What is the team’s nickname?
For the 2015-2016 season the team's official nickname will be "The Triad Storm".

What will the team’s colors be?
Team colors are Red, Black, Yellow and White.
