RALEIGH, NC - Registration for the Carolina Hurricanes' Learn to Play: First Goal program will open Wednesday morning, May 1, at 9:00 a.m. This year, the program features locations in Cary, Charlotte, Fort Bragg, Garner, Greensboro, Hillsborough, Raleigh, Wake Forest and Wilmington. The First Goal program is available for just $145 per person and has introduced over 1,500 children to the game of hockey in its four years in North Carolina.
The Hurricanes' First Goal program is a partnership between the Carolina Hurricanes, the NHL, and the NHL Players' Association in conjunction with the league-wide Learn to Play program. The initiative is geared towards kids who have not already played in a house league or higher, or previously been registered to a USA Hockey or Hockey Canada sanctioned minor hockey program. The First Goal program provides first-time participants (boys and girls) aged 5-9 with hockey equipment, as well as the opportunity to enjoy instructional hockey sessions. Participants are introduced to the game of hockey through seven on-ice skills sessions with Hurricanes alumni Shane Willis, Bates Battaglia and Jeff Daniels, and receive new, Hurricanes-branded equipment, including:
In addition, each participant receives two tickets to a Hurricanes' home game during the 2019-20 season, a Hurricanes Kids Club membership, and a graduation ceremony and certificate at the conclusion of the program. Get more information about the Hurricanes' First Goal program.
