Travel Tryouts Postponed

2020-2021 Travel Tryouts POSTPONED

THA Players, Parents, Coaches and Volunteers:

Hope you and your families are well and you are taking care of yourselves. Due to restrictions related to the coronavirus, THA Tryouts scheduled for May 16 - 20 have been postponed until further notice. Carolina Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) made this decision affecting all affiliates. CAHA has a scheduled meeting for May 3rd with all affiliates to update and review tryout options at this time. Attempting to set tryout dates is not feasible at this time as things are changing daily with no definitive end date. Once tryout dates are set, THA will schedule skills and/or practice sessions so players can prepare for tryouts in advance. I know we all are wanting this to move forward and we ask for your patience as we navigate something we never have experienced. We will continue to communicate to you as things develop.

THA Update

To: THA Parents and Players
From:  Bucky Dame, Executive Director
Date:  March 13
Subject:  Coronavirus

The Triad Hockey Association Management Team has been in contact as it relates to the COVID-19 and the impact on THA operations.  Fortunately, other than Rec all travel programs are completed for the 2019-20 Season.  All rec activities have been cancelled for March 14 – 17 and Rec playoffs for weekend of March 21-22 are to be determined in the early part of next week. If the ice schedules allow, we will attempt to make ups some of these lost times.  Springs Skills are still scheduled to start on April 8 and we will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as appropriate.

The Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Annex and Greensboro Ice House are both taking the necessary precautions at their facilities and their individual statements are provided.

This pandemic is something that we have not experienced and is a very fluid situation with changes coming at a rapid pace.  The THA’s number one priority is the well-being and safety of our players, coaches, parents, on-ice officials, volunteers and spectators.  We want to let you know that we are monitoring the situation closely and will keep you updated as we move forward.

If there are any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to myself or Dean Christy.

Thank you.

3/13/2020 COVID-19 UPDATE

Dear Guests and Staff,

We are doing our best to closely monitor the current situation involving COVID- 19 and evaluating our options on how to be best prepared. It is a new challenge for all of us and we do not have many of the answers. At this time, what we know we can do to help protect the health of our guests, staff and anyone they come in contact with after visiting our facility is to increase the level of disinfecting high touch areas and increase the number of sanitizing dispensers in our facility. Right now we have 3 dispensers available for use by anyone and they are located in each of the semi private rooms at the front of the rink. We will be installing an additional 4 dispensers today. We have also made adjustments to our dehumidification system to allow additional fresh air to be circulated within the facility. This system has been modified to run 24 hours a day.

At this time, we intend to be open however large events such as Learn to Skate Classes will be postponed and we will communicate with them directly about a restart date. The decisions regarding our status may be altered at any time as the current environment surrounding this virus is ever-changing.

Should you have private ice booked, birthday parties or any other event secured at our facility and wish to cancel, you may do so without penalty. Please provide as much notice as possible so we may make necessary adjustments. We understand this situation is sensitive and we will do our best to work with you all during this time. We hope you and yours stay safe, stay healthy and remain calm during this trying time for everyone not only nationwide, but worldwide.

Sincerely,

Chuck Burch
General Manager

Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Annex

Dear Hockey User,

The Public Assembly Facilities of the City of Winston-Salem, including The Winston-Salem Fairgrounds and Annex and Bowman Gray Stadium is preparing for all scenarios of the potential impact of the coronavirus, specifically COVID-19, for our events, guests, clients, and employees.  We want to assure the public that we are monitoring the situation closely and at this time all events are moving forward as scheduled.

We internally have developed a COVID-19 task force to look at key areas that impact our clients, guests, and employees and will implement best practices out of this.

We have significantly increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting in all public areas beyond the standard daily schedule, and we have added alcohol-based sanitizer dispensers for public use throughout public spaces.  You will notice an extra staff person on site that is dedicated to just wiping down touch points.

The safety of our guests, clients, performers, and employees is our top priority and we will make thoughtful decisions in collaboration with the City of Winston-Salem as the situation continues to develop. We like many other in our industry believe that all decisions related to producing events should be rooted in facts, not fear, and that we will work closely with the local Health Department and City/County Emergency Management through this time.

With that being said at this time Thursday March 12, 2020 at 3:00 pm EST the ice rink is scheduled to remain open through the weekend.  We ask that if your group is canceling activities to please let us know immediately so that we can appropriately plan.  We will waive any cancellation penalties at this time.

If there are any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to myself or Lee Shapiro.  We are all in uncharted territory and will work together to make sure we do what is right for the community, facility, and our clients.  Future updates may be a regularly changing occurrence at this point

Thank you.

Robert Mulhearn, Public Assembly Facilities Manager
