THA COVID Update

We hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday season, and we are looking forward to the second half of the hockey season. Covid-19 (Omicron variant) is an ongoing issue that we continue to monitor very closely and have been relying on the CDC for guidance. This is an ever-evolving situation and guidelines are subject to change. Attached is a link to the most recent CDC changes as they pertain to positive test results, firsthand exposure, and isolation. THA fully supports the updated CDC guidelines as listed below.

Confirmed Positive Case of COVID-19:

The biggest change is the shortening of the isolation period for positive individuals from 10 days to 5 days.

"People with COVID-19 should isolate for 5 days and if they are asymptomatic or their symptoms are resolving (without fever for 24 hours), follow that by 5 days of wearing a mask when around others to minimize the risk of infecting people they encounter."

*Masks WILL be required in the rink, in the locker room and on the ice during games/practice for 5 days after your return. If you choose NOT to wear a mask, your quarantine time away from team activities will remain at 10 days.

Exposure to a Positive Case of COVID-19:

Additionally, CDC is updating the recommended quarantine period for anyone in the general public who is exposed to COVID-19. For people who are unvaccinated or are more than six months out from their second mRNA dose (or more than 2 months after the J&J vaccine) and not yet boosted, CDC now recommends quarantine for 5 days followed by strict mask use for an additional 5 days. Individuals who have received their booster shot do not need to quarantine following an exposure, but should wear a mask for 10 days after the exposure. For all those exposed, best practice would also include a test for SARS-CoV-2 at day 5 after exposure {THA will require this}.  If symptoms occur, individuals should immediately quarantine until a negative test confirms symptoms are not attributable to COVID-19.”

*In short, if a team member is exposed to a positive case they must test at day 5 after exposure and THA will require a negative COVID-19 PCR or Antigen test result administered by a medical professional (home tests are NOT accepted) at day 5 after exposure.

*All Covid-19 cases and exposures need to be reported to your team manager or head coach immediately.

All six of the THA travel teams will be going to Louisville, Kentucky on January 14 for a tournament. So, now is the time to be diligent with understanding the recent CDC changes and helping keep as many kids on the ice as possible.

Please be reminded that the City of Winston Salem still has a mask mandate indoors which does apply to anyone inside at the Winston Salem Annex. THA strongly recommends masks in all common areas of the rinks such as the lobby and locker rooms. Masking is an effective tool to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

The THA policy requires honesty of all involved especially parents and/or guardians and the THA requests reporting in accordance with the THA COVID-19 Policy and Procedures. The knowledge and circumstances around COVID-19 are changing constantly and will keep you updated as changes take place, as well as ask for your patience as we navigate these challenges.

Sincerely,

Triad Hockey Alliance
