Winning, Development, and the Big Picture at 10U

By By Michael Rand 04/03/2019, 9:00am EDT

If 8U is about cross-ice hockey and fundamental skill-building, there is perhaps a tendency to rush into opposites at 10U.

As parents, coaches and even players emerge from 8U, they may be yearning for something dramatically different.

The grass may appear greener at 10U – with full-ice hockey.

The problem is that a complete 180 is seldom a good idea, and it certainly isn’t in this case. Bob Mancini, a regional manager for USA Hockey’s American Development Model, has some thoughts on why 10U hockey still requires a look at the big picture and a focus on skill development over results.

And the first Rec League Champion is....

By Kurt Wolfe 03/19/2019, 7:00am EDT

We had a great weekend of Rec Hockey.  In the first game, the Lady Icehawks came back with a minute left to bring the score to 6 to 7 against Blizzard.  They pulled their goalie in an effort to tie the game, but Blizzard was able to score an empty net goalie to seal the win.

In the Championship game, Thunder took an early 4 to 1 lead in the first period against Lightning.  Lightning came back in the 2nd to go up 5 to 4.  Both teams tied it up at 7 all in the 3rd period, but Thunder came out ahead at the buzzer 9 to 7.

Thunder is your 1st THA Storm REC League Champions!

On Sunday, the REC players enjoyed the first annual Glow in the dark game.  We turned to lights off, neon lighting on the goalies, and LED pucks.  We had 2 games and everyone had a great time.  Best way to end a great season!
