What is the Triad Hockey Alliance?
The Triad Hockey Alliance (THA) is a youth hockey organization based in the Greensboro and Winston-Salem region focused on player development, competition, and character growth. Our mission is to provide a structured and positive environment where players can improve their skills, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love for the game.
THA operates both competitive travel hockey and recreational house league programs, creating opportunities for players of all experience levels.
What teams does THA offer?
Triad Storm (Travel Hockey)
Our competitive travel program for players looking for a higher level of play and development.
Triad House League (Recreational Hockey)
A recreational program designed for players who want to learn the game, improve their skills, and compete in a fun and supportive environment.
Both programs offer teams at the following levels:
- 10U
- 12U
- 14U
- 16U
- 18U
When does the season run?
The primary travel hockey season runs from late August through early March.
Practices typically begin in early August, with league games, showcases, and tournaments running throughout the fall and winter before playoffs conclude the season in March.
How many games do teams play?
Triad Storm teams typically play 40–45 games per season, which may include:
- League games
- Showcases
- Tournaments
- Exhibition games
- Playoffs
How often do teams practice?
Triad Storm teams practice two times per week, along with additional development opportunities including:
- One weekly on-ice skill session
- Team workouts
- Film sessions
- Off-ice development training
Our goal is to develop well-rounded athletes both physically and mentally.
Triad House League teams practice once per week with a weekly on-ice skills session.
Where are practices and home games held?
Practices and games are primarily held at:
- Greensboro Ice House
- Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Annex Ice Rink
What league do Triad Storm teams play in?
Triad Storm teams compete in several competitive leagues including:
- EJEPL (Eastern Junior Elite Prospects League)
- Carolina Hockey League (CHL)
- Atlantic Coast Hockey Conference (ACHC)
These leagues provide strong regional competition and development opportunities for players.
Do you offer goalie development?
Yes. THA places a strong emphasis on goalie development.
Our Director of Goalie Development, Christian Pavlas, leads specialized training for our goaltenders. Goalies receive:
- Designated goalie skill sessions
- Position-specific coaching
- Development-focused instruction throughout the season
What league do Triad Storm teams play in?
Triad Storm teams compete in several competitive leagues including:

How do tryouts work?
Tryouts for the upcoming season are typically held in late April or early May.
Players register online and attend evaluation sessions where independent evaluators assess:
- Skating ability
- Hockey IQ
- Compete level
- Skill execution
Team selections are communicated shortly after tryouts conclude.
What equipment does my player need?
Players must have full hockey equipment to participate.
THA requires the following primary team equipment colors:
- Red helmet
- Red gloves
- Red hockey pants
How can I get involved?
THA is a community-driven organization and welcomes parent involvement through:
- Team management
- Event support
- Community programs
- Volunteer opportunities

How many travel tournaments in a season?
Each team will most likely play 4-5 tournaments. Tournaments offer the opportunity for both players and families to get to know each other and bond as a hockey family.
Is there Learn to Skate, Learn to Play, and Girls Hockey?
Yes, GYHA, WYSHA, & the Lady Thunderbirds offer these three pathways.
What level of play do the Triad Storm play at?
We have teams at both the A and AA levels.
