Frequently Asked Questions
Is there contact or checking?
Hockey IS a competitive contact sport, however House League is a non-checking league. Competitive contact is a legal, controlled form of physical play designed to win possession or space, often used in youth/non-check leagues. It focuses on body positioning and angling, whereas checking (body checking) is an intentional, forceful hit using shoulders or hips to stop an opponent, typically allowed only in higher age/skill levels.
Do we need any special color equipment?
Nothing specific is required. If considering Travel Hockey in the future, red gloves & helmet are required for travel.
Can my 8 year old play?
We are very sorry, but due to the new format, Last year mites are not eligible this season.
I'm a parent who wants to volunteer, how do I help?
THA relies on our volunteers to help the league run smoothly and the kids to have their best experience. We're always looking for Coaches, Team Managers, Locker Room Monitors & general volunteers (scorekeeping, etc). Please look for the signup and let your coach know you're willing to help - it will be greatly appreciated!
